Qualification Description
This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of information and communications technology (ICT) roles who have significant experience in specialist technical skills, or managerial business and people management skills. Individuals in these roles carry out complex tasks in a specialist field, working independently, leading a team or a strategic direction of a business. They apply their skills across a wide range of industries and business functions or as a business owner (sole traders/contractors). The course will focus on leadership in ICT, ICT project management, sustainability in ICT, strategy and business management and more.

Course Duration

Pre-requisites
Entry Requirements - Overseas Students
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Participate in a Pre-enrolment Review to determine the suitability of the course and additional support needs.
- Undertake MechTech’s ACSF Level 5 LLND assessment.
- Must have access to a portable device (laptop, iPad or similar) with access learning resources and self-study.
- Must provide evidence of English Language proficiency as stated under the English Language requirements below.
English Language Proficiency Requirements:
The current applicable legislative instrument is:
LIN 25/090: Migration (English Language Tests and Evidence Exemptions for Subclass 500 (Student) Visas) Instrument 2025
Typically, applicants are required to provide results from an approved English language test (e.g. IELTS, PTE Academic, etc.) meeting or exceeding the minimum scores as specified by the legislative instrument and MechTech’s entry criteria. Where a student is exempt from providing external English test evidence under the visa instrument (as listed below), MechTech may assess your English proficiency through an alternate method where required. In such cases, the Dynamic Placement Test (Clarity English) is used to objectively measure your language proficiency and ensure it is sufficient for course participation. This additional step is to uphold academic standards and student support obligations, even if you are visa-exempt from testing. MechTech must be confident in your English ability to progress in your training.
You must have completed the English language test within two (2) years of the application date.

English Language test requirements do not apply to the following:

- (i) A course of study that is registered to be delivered in a language other than English;
- (ii) An ELICOS;
- (iii) A registered school course
- (iv) a registered post-graduate research course;
- (i) A Foreign Affairs student; or
- (ii) A defence Student; or
- (iii) A Secondary exchange student;
- (i) The requirements for a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education, in a course that was conducted in Australia and in English; or
- (ii) A substantial component of a course leading to a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework at the Certificate IV level or higher that was conducted in Australia and in English, while the applicant was holding a student visa;
- (i) Australia;
- (ii) Canada;
- (iii) New Zealand;
- (iv) South Africa;
- (v) the Republic of Ireland;
- (vi) the United Kingdom;

Conditions of Entry
For overseas students, it is a condition of entry that, prior to commencement, you must provide evidence of having an Australian Student Visa (subclass 500)

Student Support Services
MechTech requires all students to undertake an ACSF-level 5 assessment and a Pre-enrolment Review upon enrolment to determine the suitability of the course and identify any additional support needs that you may have. MechTech provides a range of additional support services as listed below, which will be offered to you as required and will be identified in your Training and Assessment plan:
- Additional tutorials and mentoring sessions
- Additional handouts
- Additional practice time
- Extensions for assessment submission
- One-on-one time with the trainers
- Specific computer and technology support
- Referral to external support services as required
- Reasonable adjustments

Assessment System
Credit Transfer
You may apply for credit transfer. If you have successfully completed unit/s that have identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. If, upon successful application, you are granted Credit Transfer of the unit/s, you are not required to enrol or undertake the unit. This will appear on your Record of Results or Statement of Attainment. No additional charges apply for the Credit Transfer application. Credit Transfers will be discussed with you, and you will be given the opportunity to apply for credit transfers during your Pre-enrolment Review.
Successful outcomes of your Credit Transfer application may reduce your course duration and will be reflected in your Training and Assessment plan.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- ‘Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) means an assessment process that assesses the competency/s of an individual that may have been acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual meets the requirements specified in the training package or VET accredited courses. Formal learning refers to learning that takes place through a structured program of instruction and is linked to the attainment of an AQF qualification or statement of attainment (for example, a certificate, diploma or university degree);
- Non-formal learning refers to learning that takes place through a structured program of instruction, but does not lead to the attainment of an AQF qualification or statement of attainment (for example, in-house professional development programs conducted by a business); and
- Informal learning refers to learning that results through experience of work-related, social, family, hobby or leisure activities (for example the acquisition of interpersonal skills developed through several years as a sales representative).’
